Importance: High Could you please have any of your staff that oversee Genesee County NPDES and Non-Point Source regarding the Flint River respond to me directly. lam working with EPA Region 5 in response to a letter to the White House regarding Flint drinking water. The complainant indicates they received a “Letter of Alert” in January 2015 regarding the detection of refrigerant and solvent contaminants in the Flint River. | just need to know if WRD staff are aware of any monitoring in the Flint River that could be associated with this, and if they might know where this “Letter of Alert” could be coming from. This may also be more prevalent in some small privately owned systems, such as manufactured housing where the risers are not well protected and smaller distribution lines are more common. This may be more of your call. This pertains to the Bray Road sludge lagoon site and the new decant structure that will direct decant water from the Flint WTP lime sludge to the sanitary sewer. The work will correct the unauthorized discharge that was occurring at the local receiving stream. Not sure if you have taken a look at the design.....the ODWMA anticipates issuing an Act 399 permit for the work at Bray Road within the next few weeks. | will be in the Frank Balcer room today after 10am for the balance of the day reviewing these plans. The Michigan State Police are requesting information about WWTPs. First they would like a list of any WAVTPs serving populations greater than 190,000 people. Our database (NMS) doesn't have that information. Can you ask your staff what WWTP might fall into this category? lI'm assuming the UP, Cadillac and Gaylord Offices won't be responding to this, but | would appreciate a response from the other districts. They'd also like a fist of WYVTPs that discharge greater then 2 MGD within & river mies of a water infake serving populations of 100,000 ar rnore. | assume that might only hit SEMI and Grand Rapids districts because you need a surface water intake serving a population greater than 100,000. That might only be DWSD and Grand Rapids/Wyoming. The attached files is helpful in identifying which systems serve populations of 100,000+. If you can send me your list, or that you don't have anything on the list, | would appreciate it.
