As you are all aware, the City of Flint as well as the DEQ have been in the news lately with respect to drinking water and lead concerns. Director Wyant and the DEQ are taking a number of steps to resolve those concerns, including analyzing drinking water samples from the schools and residences. Director Wyant has temporarily assigned George Krisztian to the Executive Division to provide assistance in working with the many partners and stakeholders to address these issues. George's experiences, knowledge and skill set will be a great asset to the DEQ team in this endeavor. The time frame for this temporary assignment is uncertain at this point, however Carol Smith and Kirby Shane will alternate as Acting Director at the Laboratory in the interim. Please note that the Laboratory staff will be processing a very large number of drinking water samples during this period. We may also need to provide support in other ways (administrative, data entry, etc.) to our co-workers at the Laboratory as well. Your support, understanding and patience are greatly appreciated as you interact with the RRD Laboratory staff. Our Laboratory provides outstanding customer service, excellent turn around times, and high quality results that will be used to evaluate the situation and make critical decisions. Great! Right now everything is up in the air and subject to change. Irn simply putting contingency clans in place so ihat dant say something at the press conference that | can't deliver on. Pm hoping that | don't even get tapped to answer a question but | nave fo prepare for that possibility. Kirby and Jule are meeting with key lab staff today to put logether a plan of action that wil allow us to process 400 samples a day 7 days a week. To out that in perspective we ran just north of 4000 lead and copper sempies during all of FY2018. Thank youl George George L. While we have said all along that the City of Hint has incicated that they are willing to test custamner water for lead, the media doesn’t appear te have carried the message through in thelr article.
