So far | am OK, but will have some conflicts with weekends occasionally for however long this project lasts. | have the Flint project code and it is working for me this time period. Kirsten Gasper will fix last week’s pay period when DCDS didn't like the project code. | would like clarification for when personal mileage begins (my house to the park & ride, or my house to Flint, etc; or as if | was coming from the office in downtown Lansing). Jim Sygo directed us to take a lunch each weekend day worked and make the day end after 2 pm to get the reimbursement if we didn’t work past it. This weekend it is one team per building (2 buildings to be sampled) so we expect a full 6 hours of sampling plus travel. | am thinking about taking a mid-week day off if this gets to be too much. --Lois

As far as your schedule goes, if you feel you need extra time in order to complete your normal tasks along with this extra Flint work, please feel free to work your full normal schedule in addition to the extra hours for sampling efforts in Flint, and claim comp time earned. Also, please make sure you are being properly compensated for your expenses by keeping track of any personal car use mileage and keeping receipts for meals — charge to the Flint code once it is active for you and submit the TEVs at least monthly. | can see the video clearly from home, but here at the office it starts OK then within seconds most of the screen goes into a ‘white out’. Anyway, our exec office clearly stated that no faces were to be shown, so they got my hand and black sleeve of my arm, or my back. Meanwhile, George Krisztian and Tracy Devereaux’s faces where shown, and there were a couple shots of Jim Sygo as timer. Jim Sygo acted as our timer so when he entered the room, each team knew it was their turn to start the sampling process. George called a team meeting for 10 am today as an after action review. | learned that | will probably be on the team for the next several weeks that could involve an adjusted work schedule during the week (collecting samples before school begins), Saturdays and Sundays or some combination. We had 3 teams of 2 people each with 1 floating person as timer. Jim Sygo thought we could reduce the teams to two 2-person teams with 1 timer for a total of 5 staff per school. | will find out more later this week.

Just a quick heads up that we are arranging a brown bag session for ODWMA employees in an attempt to explain what is happening with Flint. | know it is short notice, but we have reserved the ConCon Room for Thursday at 11:00 AM. We will provide a call-in option for district offices. Hopefully, at least some staff from each district will participate and fill in those who cannot alter their schedules on short notice. More details about the call-in number will follow as we confirm arrangements and/or they become available. | wanted you to know as soon as we were able to reserve a room. Here’s my first full draft of the DEQ Update for the ACE in the Soo. It is too long. Let me know what you think and what you think we should or could eliminate. | covered the RTCR, a few proposed state rule changes included with the RTCR, the upcoming January 1, 2016 deadlines for state. rules modified in 2009 (particularly the Reliability Studies and General Plan requirements), marketing the DWRF, and Secondary Treatment issues. : While there are too many’slides, there are quite a few that are very fast — like some of the DWRF slides that are graphical illustrations of what is presented in the previous slide(s). My.second slide . says | covered the Needs Surveys, but | don't think ! did, so | will have to change that slide. | also have a few other things to confirm/change before | make this a final. version. | have not run through it to see how long it takes but | know | would run long. This synthesis of state PWSS program activities can be lengthy but often has interesting tidbits. In this edition, | noted a few: e Some interesting things in both the Resources and DWSRF summary paragraphs. * Under implementation, some states noting problems arising with Stage 2 DBP monitoring results, especially in consecutive systems. « in Data Management, lots of complaining as usual. | also noted that a couple of states were moving away from EPA developed electronic sanitary survey software to a GEC developed SWIFT application. e Under Security and Data Management, one state is voicing concerns about giving any locational data to EPA that they cannot keep secure. Most states are going in the other direction — making the data more readily accessible. e Lots of Source Water stuff, including one state requiring above ground (chemical) storage tanks in Source Water Protection Areas to be registered. e Under “Hot Topics:” © Both Alabama and Florida are dealing with premise plumbing and secondary treatment system issues — Alabama issued their first construction permit to a hospital to install treatment to deter Legionella. o Severe and/or worsening drought issues in several states (you know what | tell them - come on back for a long, cool drink of water when you-all get thirsty!). o New York is developing a template for the “Value of Water” Brochure that would allow for the input of state or water system specific information. | am hoping we can utilize that brochure and/or that function in the upcoming drinking water week. o Washington state has returned to producing hard copies of their newsletter based on stakeholder feedback. Apparently, not everyone wants to use a smartphone to read their newsletters. © Wisconsin initiated a requirement for a HEAT EXCHANGE DRILLER’S LICENSE today — April 1%. But if you are going back a ways then: The City of Manistique exceeded the disinfection byproducts MCL for HAAS in 2008 and 2009 and had to past public notice twice. Basically this is a resource for District staff use in response to emergency/spill events.
