Gov. Rick Snyder is releasing this statement on the Flint water situation: When | became aware that the city of Flint’s water showed elevated lead levels and that the state’s handling of the situation was being questioned, | requested funding to switch the source back to the Great Lakes Water Authority and appointed an independent task force to identify possible missteps and areas for improvement. The task force has done an exceptional job, reviewing stacks of documents and interviewing scores of Flint, Genesee County, state and federal officials. Although the task force’s final report is not yet completed, it has made me aware of some interim findings and corrective steps that | have decided to take immediately in order to restore trust in how the state keeps its citizens safe and informed. We'll continue to work with the community members to make sure we hear and respond to their concerns. Here's the final version of the Eisenhower report. With litte deviation, the pattern we're seeing emerge now that we've tested 8 schools ig that old faucets and drinking fountain oubblers (which should have been replaced in the 60s) are the source of any lead we are fincing in the schools testing. This is worth noting because it’s entirely likely that may of the old homes in Flint ~ and, for that matter, elsewhere in the state — are probably in similar situation to the schools. The conversation thus far has been focused on lead service lines, out another considerable transmission source is old faucets, or copper plumbing with the 30-50 lead solder thal was once common. We're inclined to post ihe most recent report on the heels of the DHHS data announcement, as it seems a natural follow fo that news. If the DHHS data is planned for jater than Wednesday, we could put it out by liself. Like I said, we're testing a couple schools every weekend these days, so we'll have more after this announcement and the findings are all following the same pattern.

MDHHIS is working closely with the Genesee County Health Department to reach out to families testing with higher levels and help them reduce their exposure to lead sources. Information was gathered from tests administered citywide to 963 children and adults between October | and October 30. Eighteen people age 17 or younger had elevated blood lead levels. Six adults over the age 18 were identified with elevated blood lead levels. The report is intended to inform residents about blood lead level testing efforts in Flint and provide cumulative total numbers. “Our goal is to help families reduce their exposure to lead sources,” said Dr. Eden Wells, chief medical executive with the MDHHS. “We have made progress in testing and 1 xxxEND_PAGE:deq14_b0866_2868_2870_1 identifying those with elevated blood lead levels, and the department will continue to work closely with county health department to reach these families.
