Statement from DEQ Director Dan Wyant

Regarding the meeting yesterday with Change Agent Consortium: “We were not aware of the planned prayer vigil outside our headquarters, but we invited CAC leaders in to discuss their concerns and share information transparently. We felt it was a positive conversation, and appreciated the chance to brief them on the unprecedented effort being made to protect Flint kids and families. We also briefed them on the Governor's announced Flint Water Task Force, which will perform an independent review of local, state and federal roles in what has happened in Flint and make recommendations to the governor. | serve at the pleasure of the Administration. | believe the Governor will gather all the facts and make the right decision at the appropriate time. Until then, we at the DEQ are singularly focused on implementing the state’s plan to address lead issues in Flint and protect kids and families there.” Brad Wurfel Communications Director Michigan Department of Environmental Quality __217-284-6713 : _tell xxxEND_PAGE:executiveofficeemails20_b1147_2910_2910_1

flint river

Hi Dave/Brad: Mayor Walling said today that at his meeting with DEQ Monday there was discussion of switching Flint back to Detroit water. He said Director Dan Wyant specifically discussed the possibility but Walling would not characterize what Wyant said on Monday or what his position was on such a shift. The mayor said today he believes use of the Flint River presents “an increased risk” of elevated lead levels because of the corrosiveness of the water. He said it would take the support of the governor to change the water source back to Flint. He described discussions about reconnecting to Detroit as ongoing. You may have seen these comments as we live streamed the news conference on MLive. I’m interested in the director’s position on the potential for reconnecting Flint to Detroit water but especially the governor’sposition given the mayor’s comments today. Thanks for your help. | have about two hours before | need to get this posted. Ron Fonger Miive Media Group Reporter address 540 S.
