RE: ACTION: MDEQ request for technical assistance

Liane/Richard: Dan Wyant and Susan Hedman spoke yesterday and Dan asked that ORD be put in contact with MDEQ. Mike Schock and Darren Lytle are already on the Technical Advisory Committee along with Mike Pryzby. But it looks like they want the technical experts to talk. Should it just be Mike, Darren and Mike? Or should Steve Busch and others be included too? | will provide Mike and Darren with contact info and ask that they talk prior to the TAC meeting on Oct 7th. Liane: Here is my draft response that | sent up the mgmt chain. Public notice is provided Even if public notice is not required, the LCR requires that homeowners whose water was sampled for lead by the water system receive a copy of their individual lead results, including an explanation of health effects and steps the consumer can take to reduce lead exposure from drinking water. EPA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believe there is no safe level of lead exposure. Lead is harmful to health, especially for children. While paint, dust, and soil are the most common sources of lead, drinking water can contribute 20 to 40 percent of an xxxEND_PAGE:deq25_b075_0798_0976_012 infant's lead exposure. Lead is typically not found in a utility’s source water. It comes from pipes and fixtures, some of which is the owned by the homeowner. Therefore, it is difficult to say with certainty what the lead levels are in each home. The goal is to remove as much lead

RE: Flint Pb&Cu Results

| don’t think the addresses were redacted. Almost 25 years ago, we received an Attorney General's opinion that was issued in response to a FOIA request from the media for lead results from Flint that said we could withhold the addresses, However, | believe we have since determined we do not have that authority. But { will have to ask the Lansing district staff to weigh in on this matter. Steve and Adam, did we redact addresses for this FOIA?

RE: Flint Pb&Cu Results

Richard: Thank you for the analytical results. Were the addresses redacted before sending to the ACLU in response to their FOIA? I’m not comfortable sending addresses out, even if it is to a Congressman, so we are going to tell Congressman Kildee that he needs to call MDEQ’s Congressional Liaison to get the results.
