Disaster Declaration Process

Dave and Meegan, Situational awareness. There have been a couple of incorrect reports about the emergency/disaster declaration process, assuming that a Governor’s declaration is merely a sign-off and then the request is moved to federal level. MLive That’s just not the case. Requests are made to each level of government when resources are exhausted. (See the attached fact sheet.) With today’s anticipated news release, | believe there will be more reports that assume the request will be automatically going to the federal level or federal assistance is immediately coming. Declaration News Release

Importance: High Dave and Meegan, We have crafted the following news release for the Governor declaring a “state of emergency.” Please see the attached. A few things: e When the proclamation is finalized, please double-check to ensure it syncs with the news release. e The news release does not address a presidential disaster declaration. We anticipate there will be questions about whether the Governor will request one. e Before this is issued, it may be worthwhile to make the appropriate legislative and local notifications. Please let me know if you need anything else.
