Re: Story on Flint drinking water

Gotcha. At the same time, could you also provide a comment since the letter was addressed to the governor? My story will highlight that the mayor asked for some increased state involvement, investment and policy changes; specifically, he recommended/asked that: 1. Water testing data be reported publicly no less than quarterly by law in all Michigan communities in Flint’s population category xxxEND_PAGE:treasury01_b28_4390_4585_099 2. Federal and State partnerships be designed to establish new Drinking Water Emergency Assistance Fund for the elderly and vulnerable families 3. Water systems improvements outlined in the City of Flint Capital Improvement Plan be accelerated through Federal and State Investments; State approves City of Flint’s Distressed Cities Fund applications Which of these is doable or under consideration?

Story on Flint drinking water

Hi, Dave, I am working on a deadline story about Flint's drinking water. My story will focus on state involvement and state policy. My major questions: 1. What is the governor's response to the letter Mayor Walling sent last week asking for assistance? 2. What other state agencies - if any - can help residents (especially the poor) who are asking for help filtering water or getting higher quality water? 3. Essentially - with some residents complaining about the water quality - what the can the state do to help? Could you please give me a comment/call today?
