RE: A news media question

Hello Steve, We’re working closely with Mayor Weaver, and another meeting with the Mayor and Governor is expected to be scheduled this week. Not sure about the details at this point. Here is our statement about the County Commission vote: The health and welfare of Flint residents is a top priority, and we’re committed to working closely with Mayor Weaver and the Genesee County Commission on a coordinated response to health and infrastructure issues. After the County Commission’s vote today, the Michigan State Police’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division is working with the Genesee County Emergency Management Coordinator to gather information about the resources needed for a Governor’s declaration. The state police have been closely engaged in the situation since the beginning, meeting with both county and city leaders to guide them through state and federal laws regarding the emergency management process. Due to the uniqueness of this situation, we have to look at all possible options to help Flint residents. But prior to a formal declaration, we are recognizing this as an emergency and are working with city and county leaders to coordinate efforts, streamline communication and tap all available resources at the state’s control. I’m attaching an MSP fact sheet about the process. Rep. Phelps’ bill hasn’t been introduced yet, and we'll be able to give it a close review as it works through the legislative process. Certainly we share a common goal of protecting the health of people in Flint and across our state. | urge you to consider the recent Auditor General letter that | believe addresses a scenario that the representative might be referring to. RE: FW: EPA Region 5 to Audit State of Michigan's Drinking Water Program

DEO welcomes this announcement from EPA, and we've already signaled fo them that they can count on our full cooperation and transparency. We've appreciated the federal government's support on the stuation in Flint -- including its announcernent last week that the Lead and Copper rule speaks arnbiguousiy on the corrosion contral issue. Nobody wanis to see a situation like Flint, and we look forward in working with our federal partners going forward because we share the goal of making sure the Flint situation is nol repeated -- in Michigan, or anywhere else. b Brad Wurfel Communications Trector Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Sent: Tuesday, November 10, 2015 12:36 PM

Brad, The Virginia Tech folks are in Flint today. Lasked him about an ACLU charge that the previous DEQ tests of Flint water were "skewed" to show lower levels of lead. He agreed. I've attached an audio file of his response. Does the DEQ have any response to the allegation that the DEQ tests were "skewed"? Steve Carmody Michigan Radio xxxEND_PAGE:deq14_b0441_1664_1664_1
