In response to your concerns of fewer connections between the 24-inch transmission main in the Iroquois
corridor we offer the following explanation. It is our understanding the purpose of this transmission main is to
convey water to the southwest portion of Flint. In the Iroquois corridor alone there are 18 connections (1
about every 300 feet) feeding off the transmission main. With the aid of our water system hydraulic modeling
software, we were able to reliably eliminate 4 connections. Based the modeling data, there would be little or
no loss of capacity in the Iroquois corridor with the elimination of these 4 connections. There are 12-inch
mains located a couple blocks east and west of Iroquois corridor, one along Chevrolet Ave to the other along
Martin L. King Avenue that are able to fulfill the demands in the area even without these four connections. If
you have any other questions or concerns my contact information is provided below.

Booster A booster station located at the southwest corner of Third Avenue and Main Street, and equipped with
Stations two, 15 Hp pumps each rated 150 gpm @ 200 feet TDH. Station includes backup power and all other
equipment as required for proper operation.
Elevated A 300,000 gallon elevated storage tank located in City Park. The proposed tank shall be spherical, all
Storage Tank | welded construction and supported on a single pedestal. The tank shall be 150 feet in height, 40 feet in
diameter with a normal operating range of 130 — 145 feet. The interior coating system shall be ANSI/NSF
Standard 61 approved or equivalent. The tank will be equipped with a cathodic protection system, and
includes a tank level control system with telemetry.
Chemical A positive displacement chemical feed pump, rated at 24 gpd @ 110 psi to apply a chlorine solution for
Feed Well No. 1. Chlorine is 12.5% NaOCL, ANSI/NSF Standard 60 approved and will be applied at a rate of
1.0 mg/l of actual chlorine.
Water Supply | Well No. 3, a 200 foot deep well with 170 feet of 8-inch casing and 30 feet of 8-inch, 10 slot screen. The
Well well will be equipped with a 20 Hp submersible pump and motor rated 200 gpm @ 225 feet TDH, set at
160 feet below land surface.
Treatment A 5 million gpd water treatment plant located at the north end of Second Avenue. The facility will

SPECIAL PROVISION
FOR
ALTERATION OF MUNICIPAL WATER SYSTEM

Description FORE RBIO
This special provision replaces section 823 of the 2012 Michigan Department of Transportation
Standard Specifications for Construction. This work shall consist of installing ductile iron watermain
of the nominal diameter shown on the plans. This work includes the furnishing of all labor,
equipment, and materials including shop drawings, required for excavation, installation, and
backfilling as shown on the plans and specified herein.
A. Grades
All mains are to be laid with a minimum cover of five and 1/2 (5.5) feet unless otherwise
shown on plans. This cover is to be from finish grade of the street. All mains are to be laid
with a minimum cover of (6) feet under railroad track.
B. Miscellaneous Services from the City/Contractor
The Contractor shall notify the Engineer in writing, with copy of notification to City of Flint
Water Service Center Supervisor, a minimum of four full working days prior to work requiring
involvement of City of Flint Water Service Center personnel. The contractor shall coordinate
all activity related to water main construction with the City of Flint Water Service Center
personnel. Costs and time for such coordination and services shall be considered included
in the progress schedule and Miscellaneous Watermain Coordination Allowance pay item.
The City will chlorinate or otherwise disinfect the water mains at the expense of the
Contractor, payment to be reimbursed through the Miscellaneous Watermain Coordination
Allowance pay item.
The City will furnish water for filling the mains for testing purposes. Water will be made
available at connections of new mains to existing mains, or at existing fire hydrants. All
connections shall be made in a manner and under conditions meeting the approval of the
Water Distribution Supervisor. No charge will be made of the Contractor by the City for the
use of water for testing purposes. All necessary attachments, devices and pumping for the
proper use of such water are to be furnished by the Contractor at his expense, and shall be
subject to the approval of the Water Distribution Supervisor. :
The Contractor will furnish all tapping valves with sleeves, corporations for chlorination,
pressure testing and water services. Contractor will perform all excavation, backfill,
compaction, preparation and restoration of the site. The City of Flint will install all pressure
taps, taps for chlorination, pressure testing and water services. Contractor shall coordinate
the installation provided by the City with City personnel. Contractor shall notify City personnel
one week in advance of service and update status as requested.
The City of Flint will make all connections and pressure taps to the existing water main.
Contractor will perform all excavation, backfill, compaction, preparation and restoration of
the site. The Contractor will supply all parts arid valves as noted on the plans.

The Contractor will remove, salvage and deliver all existing hydrants to the City of Flint
(location to be determined at the preconstruction meeting).
The City will provide for watermain inspection, and any material testing, at the expense of
the Contractor, payment shall be reimbursed with the Contractor Cost for Watermain
Inspection pay item.
City personnel will perform installation of all service connections from corporation including
curb stop and box. Installation of corporations and connections to the existing services
(materials provided by Contractor) will be by City of Flint personnel. This work will include all
labor by City of Flint personnel to install corporations to the existing and proposed watermain
and connect existing service leads. Contractor will perform all excavation, backfill,
compaction, preparation and restoration of the site.
Cc. Storing Materials and Supplies
Materials and supplies, if necessary, may be placed adjacent to the improvement, but ample
way for foot traffic must at all times be maintained free from obstruction except with the
express permission of the Water Distribution Supervisor. Any damage to the walks or
property by reason of such storing of matenals must be repaired by the Contractor at his own
expense. The Contractor must not (except after consent from the proper parties) enter or
occupy with men, tools, or materials any land not the property of the City, or land on which
an easement or right has not been secured by the City.
D. Convenience to Public
During the progress of the work, the convenience of the public and of residents along the
street must be provided for as far as practicable. Convenient access to driveways, houses
and buildings along the street must be maintained wherever possible. The sidewalk or
crosswalk shall be replaced, after backfilling of the water main, as noted on the plans.
All traffic control and detouring of the streets will be done according to the plans and as
specified in the Special Provision for Maintaining Traffic.
E. Structures Above Ground
Existing structures above ground such as utility poles, street lighting standards, parking
meter supports, hydrants and the like and buildings shall be protected from damage. The
Contractor shall be responsible for damage to any structures or fixtures above ground
caused by his operations. The Contractor shall also be responsible for damage to existing
underground structures caused by his operations as previously specified herein.
PF: Fire Hydrants
No material or other obstruction shall be placed within ten feet of existing fire hydrants.
Hydrants shall at all times be readily accessible to the Fire Department.
G. Rights-of-Way
In general, work under contract that is located in City streets or on City property. Rights-of-
way across private property, where required, will be secured by the City without expenses to

the Contractor. The Contractor shall hold himself strictly within the rights secured to him by
the City in prosecuting the work on private property.
H. Use of Mains before Final Completion
The City shall have the right to make use of such portions of completed acceptably tested
mains, during the construction period as they may find practicable. Such use by the City
shall not relieve the Contractor from responsibility for any leaks or defective work in such
mains and accessories which may develop prior to the final acceptance of all work under this
contract.
I. Trees, Shrubs, Etc.
Trees, shrubs, etc., in the line of the water main, will be removed, as noted on the plans.
Materials
A. Concrete
Class A - (for all structures)
4: 2: 6: Mix (Minimum cement per cubic yard of concrete - 1.55 Ibs)
Class B - (Lean concrete for fill)
1: 3: 3: Mix (Minimum cement per cubic yard of concrete - 1.10 Ibs)
All "Class A” concrete shall show a minimum 28 day strength of 3,500 pounds per square
inch, and "Class B” concrete, 1,000 pounds, per square inch.
The retempering of concrete which has partly hardened, that is, remixing with or without
additional cement, aggregate or water, will not be permitted.
Transit mixed concrete may be used.
In order to obtain clean and firm bearing surfaces, all water and softened material shall be
removed from excavations immediately before concrete is deposited. Concrete shall not be
deposited in water nor shall water be allowed to rise over the concrete until ithas hardened °
sufficiently to prevent injury thereto. Any flow of water into the excavation shall be diverted
through proper side drains to a pump, or by lowering the ground water level by means of
pumps or removed by other approved means, which will avoid washing the freshly deposited
concrete.
Concrete shall be deposited in accordance with approved practice and in a manner and
under conditions which will meet the approval of the Engineer.
The surface of concrete and mortar that will be exposed to the sun or to premature drying
after placing shall be kept constantly moist by sprinkling at frequent intervals, or by covering
with moist burlap or canvas or by other means equally effective, for a period of seven (7)
days after completion. Freshly finished surfaces shall be protected by supported canvas or

other protection during rain or storms. A sufficient quantity of canvas or other protection
shall be kept ready for this purpose.
B. Reinforcing Steel
Reinforcement steel shall conform to standard specifications for billet bars for concrete
reinforcement, intermediate grade, serial designation A15-39 of American Society for
Testing Materials.
C. Water Valve Manholes
Gatewells (gate valve in manhole) and well structures (check valve in manhole) materials
shall be in accordance with Section 403 of the 2012 MDOT Standard Specifications for
Construction or in accordance with the Standard Details. All valve manhole frames and -
covers shall be as specified on the Drawings.
An exterior seal of Wrapid Seal or a City of Flint approved alternate shall be installed to seal
all valve manholes. Outside of road right-of-ways, Contractor shall use a City of Flint or
Engineer approved one and one-quarter inch (114") pre-formed butyl rubber sealant between
grade rings, valve manhole frames and valve manhole sections. Within road right-of-ways,
Contractor shall use mortar between grade rings, valve manhole frames and valve manhole
sections.
All tapping valves shall be installed in valve manholes. All valves, 12 inches and larger,
installed in paved areas shall be installed in valve manholes to manhole frames. All
structures shall be at grade when installed under Bavne areas or at six inches (6”) below
grade when installed under gravel roads.
The top of the valve manhole frames and covers shall be installed flush with finished
pavement grade, finished lawn grade or six inches (6”) below road grade in gravel roads.
Openings for watermain pipe inlets or outlets shall be provided in pre-cast units at the
locations required and shall be true to form and approximately one inch (1") larger in
diameter than the outside of the watermain pipe to provide for a mortar seal. The openings
around all watermain pipe shall be completely sealed using non-shrink cement mortar grout.
Water valve manholes shall be constructed of pre-cast concrete and shall conform to ASTM
‘C478-03 and contain'a modified joint and premium rubber gasket which shall conform to
ASTM C443-02. Valve manhole sections shall be installed on eight inch (8”) thick pre-cast
base slabs or installed integrally with the slab section. The valve manhole size shall be
determined in accordance with the table provided on the watermain detail sheet.
D. Manhole Steps
All manhole steps shall be copolymer polypropylene plastic and installed in valve manholes
at a spacing of sixteen inches (16") on center. All Copolymer polypropylene steps shall be
M.A. Industries PS-1-PF, American Step Co. ML-10 with one-half inch (14”) grade 60 steel
reinforcement or a City of Flint approved alternate.

E. Pipe
Pipe used in the water distribution system shall be ductile iron pipe centrifugally cast in metal
or sand-lined molds conforming to ANSIVAWWA C150/A21.50 and ANSI/AWWA
C151/A21.51 as amended to date. Push-on joints, mechanical joints, and/or restrained
joints shall conform to ANSI/AWWA C104/A21.4 as amended to date.

The metal thickness class, net weight of the pipe without lining, the nominal size, and the
manufacturers identifying symbol! shall be clearly marked on each length of pipe.
Types of pipe and pipe sizes larger than 12-inch shall be specified individually based upon
the particular conditions of the specific project. The pipe shall have cement-mortar lining
conforming to ANSI/AWWA C104/A21.4 as amended to date. The pipe shall have a push on
joint with a single rubber gasket and shall include brass or bronze wedges to permit
electrical thawing. Polywrap meeting ANSI/AWWA C105/A21.5-99 for 8 mil Linear Low
Density polyethylene encasement is required to cover all underground watermain and
appurtenances including service taps and excluding copper service lead tubing.

This specification covers iron-body resilient-seated gate valves with non-rising stems
(NRS) from 3" to 12" nominal pipe size.

The valves covered by this specification shall be in conformance with
requirements of the current AWWA Specification C515, Underwriters
Laboratories Standards UL262 and Factory Mutual Standard 1130. The
Ductile Iron Body, Bonnet, Seal Plate, and Wedge are manufactured from
Iron conforming to ASTM A536. The epoxy coating shall be in accordance
with ANSI/AWWA C550 and certified to NSF61. The wedge is fully rubber
encapsulated to meet ASTM D429 requirements. The following
specifications also apply.
General
Gate valves are to be FlowMaster® Resilient Wedge Gate Vales as
manufactured by East Jordan Iron Works.
All valves shall be mechanical joint type with non-rising stems and O ring
seal. Valves are to be placed in the vertical position and open to the right
(clockwise). The valve interior shall be coated with an epoxy.
The manufacturer shall supply catalog data including illustrations and part
schedules.
The manufacturer shall furnish the purchaser with an affidavit stating the
valve and all materials used in its construction conform to the applicable
requirements of this standard and the supplementary specifications and that
all tests specified therein have been performed and met.
BUTTERFLY VALVES
A.
Scope
This specification covers butterfly valves of the approved type.
Specific Requirements
Standard
All butterfly valves shall conform to the requirements of AWWA C504 in all
respects, except as may be specifically modified herein.
General
Butterfly valves are to be Dresser, Series 450 or Groundhog Series as
manufactured by Henry Pratt Company.
Valve ends shall be suitable for flange connections. Valve body shall be high-
strength cast iron ASTM A126 Class B with 18-8 Type 304 stainless steel body
seat. Valve vane shall be high-strength cast iron ASTM A48 Class 40, having
rubber seat mechanically secured with an integral 18-8 stainless steel clamp ring
and 18-8 stainless steel self-locked screws.

Rubber seat shall be a full-circle 360 degree seat not penetrated by the valve
shaft. Valve shaft shall be one piece, extending full size through the entire valve
and operator with no neck-down, keyways, or holes to weaken it. Valve shaft
shall have 304 stainless steel journals rotating in reinforced teflon bearings.
Valve shall have permanently set two-way thrust bearing. Packing shall be
“triple-seal" rubber designed for permanent duty in underground service.
Valve operator shall be of the traveling-nut type, sealed, gasketed and lubricated
for underground service. It shall be capable of withstanding an overload input
torque of 450 ft. Ibs. at full-open or full-closed position without damage to the
valve or valve operator. It shall be designed to resist submergence in water of
25 ft. head pressure.
Valve shall be capable of easy closure by one person using standard valve key,
even under emergency line-break conditions as severe as those that may require
a valve maximum opening torque requirement of as much as two times AWWA
Class 150B.
All valves shall open to the right (clockwise) and be equipped with a 2" square
AWWA operating nut.
The manufacturer shall supply catalog data including illustrations and part
schedules.
The manufacturer shall furnish the purchaser with an affidavit stating the valve

CHECK VALVES
A.
Scope
This specification covers check valves of the approved type.
Specific Requirements
Standard
The valves covered by this specification shall be in conformance with
requirements of the current AWWA Specification and ANSI B16.1 Class 125
rated to a minimum of 250 psi.
General
Check valves shall: be manufactured from gray cast iron meeting or
exceeding ASTM A126 Grade B; comply with AWWA C508; allow for clear
waterway opening; possess a ductile iron clapper arm conforming to ASTM
A536 Grade 65-45-12; possess a disc which does not contact the body when
the valve is in full-open position; possess a shaft which is stainless steel with
corrosion resistant bearings.

TAPPING VALVES AND SLEEVES

This specification covers tapping valves and sleeves of the approved type.

The valves, hardware and sleeves covered by this specification shall be in
conformance with requirements of the current AWWA Specification rated to
a minimum of 250 psi.
ii. General
Tapping valves, hardware, sleeves and flanges shall be an approved type,
as proposed by Shop Drawing submittal, as manufactured by East Jordan
Iron Work for FlowMaster® Sleeves, flanges, and hardware shall be
stainless steel.
LEVEL CONTROL VALVES
A. Scope
This specification covers level control valves of the approved type.
B. Specific Requirements
Standard
The valves, hardware and sleeves covered by this specification shall be in
conformance with requirements of ie current AWWA Specifi ication rated to
a minimum of 250 psi.
General
Level control valves are to be Singer Valve model 106-A-Type 3 / 206-A-
Type 3, as manufactured by Singer Valve Company.
Valve ends shall be suitable for flange connections. Both the Model 301-4
Pilot spring range (elevation) and Model 625-RPD differential (delayed
opening) set-point preset's are to be set by Singer Valve. The City Engineer
will be provided ranges prior to contractor purchasing/ordering the valve.

In line stops are to be the approved type and manufacturer, as proposed by
Shop Drawing submittal.
This specification covers post-type dry-barrel hydrants.

A.
Standard
The hydrants covered by this specification shall be in conformance with
requirements of the current ANSI/AWWA Standard C502 with revisions to
date. Hydrants also shall be Underwriters Laboratories Standard UL246
listed and Factory Mutual 1510 approved, The Ductile Iron castings shall be
manufactured from iron conforming to ASTM A536, and the following
supplemental specifications.
General
Hydrants are to be East Jordan Iron Works Model 5BR250, part #55512D.
Hydrants are to be of the “Breakable” or “Traffic Type" with replaceable
components of barrel and stem. The hydrants shall be compression type
shut-off which will remain closed in event of accidental damage or breaking
of the barrel. The seat valve shall be bronze to bronze material.
Hydrants are to have 5-1/4” inch main valve and 6-inch side inlet. Inlet to
have mechanical joint unless otherwise specified on bid sheet. The hydrants
shall be provided with a drain or waste outlet which is part of the main valve
mechanism; at delivery the drain or waste outlet is to be tapped and plugged.
Hydrants are to have "O" ring packing. The hydrant shall be painted chrome
yellow. The top of hydrants shall be painted according to the standard detail

Fittings

sheet in the plans. Hydrants will open to right (clockwise) and the direction of
opening shall be clearly shown by an arrow and word “open” cast in relief,
so as to be clearly visible on the top of the hydrant. Hydrants shall have two
2.1/2 inch hose nozzles and one 4 1/2 inch pumper nozzle with NST threads
and caps with chains. Operating and cap nuts are to be square. The square
is to measure 7/8 inches across the flats at the base and not less than 3/4
inches at the top. Height of the nut is not to be less than one inch.
Mechanical joint hydrants are to include joining material. Hydrants shall be
designed so that extensions to the barrel may be added above ground
without excavation. Hydrant design shall be such that no excavation is
necessary to remove the main stem and the movable parts of the drain valve.
Trench Details are as noted on the plan sheets. The standard depth of bury
(DOB) for a hydrant is 6'0” unless otherwise noted on plans. The contractor
will salvage and deliver to the City all existing hydrants. The hydrants shall
be painted as noted in the plans (detail sheet).
This specification covers ductile iron fittings 3 - 48 in. for water.
Specific Requirements

Standard
The fittings covered by this specification shall be in conformance with
requirements of the current AWWA Standard C 153/A21.53 and C 111/A
21.11 and the following supplemental specifications.
General
All fittings are to be mechanical joint, cement lined, with a 350 psi pressure
rating. When requested, fittings should be supplied to fit over both
centrifugally cast and sand cast pipe.
Mechanical joint fittings are to include joining material.
Gatewell Rings and Cover
Gatewell castings shall be East Jordan Iron Works No. 104018L01 with cover type “CF-6”, or
Valve Boxes
approved equal. Cover shall contain type “A” legend with the text “WATER’ cast on it.
Valve boxes are to be the EuIW 95E, Bibby 95E, or Tyler 6500 Screw Type, 2-piece, arch
pattern for services. Boxes for mains shall be EJIW 8560 series 3-piece with #6 base as
specified. Gray Iron will conform to ASTM A48 Class 35B gray iron with cold tar ashpaltic
dip. Lids shall have the word “water” cast into the lid.

N. Encasement Pipe
Steel pipe where specified for encasement pipe shall be new welded steel pipe and shall
meet standards of ASTM 139, Grade B. The pipe shall be 1/4 (.250) inch to 13/32 (.406)
inch wall thickness as specified on the plans and special provision if included in bid
package.
oO. Separator Skids
Skid runners that completely separate casing and carrier pipes shall be utilized. Methods
and materials shall be approved by the Engineer.
Where hardwood runners are approved for banding to water carrier pipe, they shall be
treated with solution. The
solution shall consist of not less than 42 percent, nor more than 52 percent of
pentachlorophenol dissolved in a heavy petroleum solvent. Then pentachlorophenol and the
heavy petroleum solvents shall conform to the requirements of the current specifications for
Timber preservatives, AASHTO Designation: M133.
solution may be purchased as a ready-to-use product, or a
concentrate to be diluted with the petroleum solvent.
The wood may be pressure treated or may be immersed in the specified pentachlorophenol-
petroleum for a period of at least seven days.
Fd Anchoring Fitting
When anchoring fittings are specified, they shall conform to the following:
American Double-X or approved equal ductile retainer gland with cap screws.
Clow F-1218 or approved equal special mechanical joint anchoring elbow.
Clow F-1215 or approved equal anchoring coupling.
Clow F-943 or approved equal special hydrant tee.
Megalug series 1100 shall be used for mechanically restrainded joints.
Q. Corporations and Curb Stops and Saddles shall be approved Ford type or similar
approved.
Detailed Specifications
A. Scope
Under this item, the Contractor will furnish all labor, pipe, valves, fittings, valve boxes,
hydrants, manholes including rings and covers, service leads and any other material
necessary for a complete main laying job. All materials and workmanship shall be as
approved by the Engineer and City of Flint Water Service Center Distribution Supervisor.

B. Excavation
The locations of existing utilities are shown in accordance with available data. The
Contractor shall expose those utilities where required, to determine actual locations. The
Contractor shall not disturb nor cut into any existing water mains in service without City of
Flint Water Distribution Supervisor's approval.
The Contractor shall explore the street far enough in advance of laying pipe to check exact
locations of underground structures, sewers, water mains, services, also gas and electric
structures. The Contractor shall contact the Engineer if any adjustments to plan and profile
of new water mains are needed to avoid interference with existing structures, and the
Contractor shall be responsible for all unnecessary Injusy to pesiorosings structures in the
course.of his operations.
Trenches for mains shall be excavated so that there will be a minimum net clearance of
twelve inches on each side of the barrel of the pipe. Water main trenches shall be
excavated to the lines, grade, and cross-section shown on the plans or to such modifications
as may be approved Water Distribution Supervisor, or Engineer to meet or pass existing
utility structures. Foreign materials encountered in the trench, such as slabs of wood,
boulders, and the like, which obstruct the trench shall be removed with other excavation and
where such obstructions occur, at or near the bottom of the trench, requiring excavation
below the standard grade. Unnecessary excavation below grade by the Contractor shall be
refilled to grade with tamped sand. Excess excavated materials not required in backfilling
shall be removed and disposed of by the Contractor. The trench shall be brought back to
grade by 1) backfilling to bottom of proposed aggregate base with approved sand meeting
the requirements for MDOT Class I! granular Material, compacted to 95% of its maximum
unit weight at optimum moisture content, and 2) placement of aggregate base as called for
on the plans or, as a minimum, place 8 inches minimum depth of 100% crushed limestone
meeting the requirements for MDOT dense graded aggregate 21AA, compacted to 98% of
its maximum unit weight at optimum moisture content,
Where condition of the ground requires, the sides of trenches shall be securely held by
bracing sheeting which may be removed in units when the level of the backfill has reached
dept where it is safe to pull the sheeting. No sheeting, bracing or other timber shall be left in
the trench upon completion of the main or other structure.
The contractor is required to control the infiltration of groundwater into‘the excavation. If
ordinary methods of drainage such as bailing, pumping, etc., prove unsatisfactory, the
contractor is responsible for dewatering.
The bottom of the trench shall be shaped so as to conform as nearly as possible to the
outside of the pipe, particular care being taken to recess the bottom of the trench in such
manner to relieve the bell of all load.
Where trench must be cut through pavement, driveway, or walk, particular care shall be
taken to unnecessarily damage adjoining areas of pavement, driveway or walk. Cuts are to
be made with a smooth edge by use of a concrete saw.
Other underground mains, sewers or structures encountered in the excavation shall be
adequately supported during the Contractor's operations, and before backfilling of the
trench, shall receive a permanent support of lean concrete (C/ass B), extending from the

bottom of the trench to the underside of the main or other structure. In lieu of such concrete
pedestal support, other approved support may be used satisfactory to the Water Distribution
Supervisor.
Small pipes and services encountered in the excavation shall, where deemed necessary by
the Water Distribution Supervisor, be properly supported and protected from possible
damage by lean concrete (Class B) or timber beams of adequate strength extending across
the trench into undisturbed ground or by concrete pedestals extending to the bottom of the
trench, or by other approved method.
Cc. Laying Pipe and Fittings
In handling or laying pipe, no metal shall be allowed to come in contact with the inside of the
pipe. Care shall be taken not to damage the pipe or pipe coating and no damaged or -
imperfect pipe may be used in the work. Minor damage to pipe coating may be repaired
subject to the approval of the Water Distribution Supervisor.
Pipe shall be carefully laid in the dry and to line and grade and care shall be taken to keep
the interior of the pipe clean and free from dirt and other foreign materials. Rubber gasket
plugs or approved bulkhead shall be used for this purpose. Mechanical joint pipe fittings
shall be jointed with the bolts, gaskets and follower rings fumished by the pipe manufacturer,
and the procedure in making such joints shall be in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions and recommendations.
Allin line bends, fitting, tees, solid sleeves, reducers, and hydrants shall be encased in 8 mil
polyethylene. The polyethylene film tube shall be installed in accordance with ANSI/AWWA
C 105/A21.5, Method A. Method A consists of cutting the polyethylene tube 2 feet longer
than the pipe to provide an overlap at the joints.
Single-rubber-gasket joint pipe shall be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions
and recommendations and is to have the required number of brass wedges installed at all
joints for electrical thawing.
