Michigan Radio interview request: pre-flushing recommendations

Hi Brad and Karen, I'm working on a couple of stories (news spots and a feature) about the debate around water testing for lead and the pre-flushing recommendations DEQ outlines for cities to use for these water tests. Could you arrange a short taped phone interview for me for tomorrow with someone at DEQ who can talk about this? Anytime after 10am would be great. Thanks! quick question for Michigan Radio story

To
Pat Cook
Hi Pat, Hope this finds you well - I just left you a voicemail but wanted to try email as well. We're hoping to nail down some specifics from the Flint water press conference today. We have an email in which Miguel Del Toral, regulations manager from EPA Region 5, says you told him that Flint had no corrosion control in place after the switch to Flint River water. Today, Director Wyant said, "I have to emphasize there’s multiple corrosion control technologies, and what’s been suggested is there were no corrosion control technologies. So Flint was treating its water and then the Lead Copper Rule requires us to test to ensure that the corrosion controls were effective. So that’s what we did." We're confused by this - can you clarify? thanks! Rebecca Williams Senior Reporter Michigan Radio (734) 647-3497 desk q ‘cell xxxEND_PAGE:deq17_b049_0720_0720_1
