RE: Flint Water

Hi Chris, This is great about what they are doing! This would provide a great rnodel for other plans. One thought, | want to check on the timeliness of the MCIA incorporation of lead test report data--it should be OK as MCIR Hinks over to the Warehouse...but we should check. Should have an answer early next week. Eden

Sue and Dr. Wells - see below and attached. We wanted to share what UnitedHealth is doing in Flint. Thought you may find this a helpful example of what our health plan partners are implementing after our discussions. We will be following up with the other plans shortly and will pass along what we get from them too. If there is anything in here that is concerning, please let us know. The L letter to all providers in Flint, which was sent to you both for sign off, will be going today. | also understand that we have a plan on metrics/data reporting too. Please let us know if there is anything else Medicaid can do to be helpful. Happy New Year! Chris Sent from my iPhone Begin forwarded message:

Hi Everyone - Working with Dr. Wells and Sue, Medicaid is planning to send an "L" letter to all Medicaid providers in Flint to help ensure as many providers as possible have, and follow, the enhanced guidelines for lead testing in children. Attached is our draft of the "L" letter -- both Dr. Wells and Sue have signed off too. We are planning on sending this ASAP, but want flag it before it went. Please let me know if you have any thoughts, concerns or comments. Thanks! Chris xxxEND_PAGE:dhhs03_b0255_0976_0976_1

Medicaid Lead Testing Report to Support MDHHS Flint Water Action Plan

From
Susan Moran
Chris: Nick met recently with the Governor appointed Flint Water Advisory Task Force to discuss status of actions taken to date, and respond to questions from the Task Force. One of the issues of very high importance to the Task Force and MDHHS is to accelerate lead testing in children 0-6 years of age. The majority of children in Flint have Medicaid as their health care coverage, and receive support through other MDHHS programs including WIC. As we develop strategies to enhance lead testing in children, we also want to also develop transparency in reporting our progress. | am writing to request your assistance in developing lead testing progress reports for the population of Medicaid children 0-6 that reside within city of Flint zip codes. Eden and | plan to discuss this next week when we meet, but in the meantime, it would be helpful if you would share my note with appropriate staff ( perhaps Cynthia Edwards) and ask for input on this request so we can mobilize a team fairly quickly to begin work on the reports. Also, fyi to you, | sent a note to Kathy asking that she identify a Medicaid representative(s) to join the MDHHS-internal Flint Water action team. Thanks, call me if you have questions.
