Clearwell aeration was one of the options the City considered. The improvements they made in distribution operations and tweaks at the WTP have gone a long way. The last sample over 80 ppb was 9 months ago. They just finished replacing filter media with GAC instead of anthracite and this has had an even bigger impact removing precursors. Waiting for sample results from the lab for August TTHM's but to give you an idea of the GAC impact, TOC removal in August was 8.5 ppm raw to 1.1 ppm treated. Prior they were removing around 40-60 %, now 87%. We expect compliance will be achieved this month. Stephen Busch, P.E. Hey Steve. | just listened to a presentation on post treatment aeration techniques to remove TTHMs. It made me wonder about Flint. Has that been discussed at all for them? The professor talked about aeration in storage tanks and in in-line diffused aeration. He ended by saying they are looking for a small scale field study, which this probably wouldn't be, but if you're interested at all! can get you the slides and the presenter's contact info. Hi Steve. | have put together a session for the small system training about several of the drinking water issues that have been in the news this year. We touched on it briefly a few weeks ago, and | don’t know if you and Mark have discussed it any further. | would appreciate it if you could provide me with either PowerPoint slides about the Flint situation, or a synopsis of the issues that | can put into slides. The other topics I’ve covered are the Toledo algal bloom, the Charleston, West Virginia MCHM river contamination, and the Louisiana Naegleria fowleri contamination. These 3 were discussed at the Cincinnati training | was at last fall, so | used my notes to put those together. | will need to have the slides done by April 10 so the booklets will be done on time, so if you could have either slides to me by then, or the data to me the week before (so | have time to put it into slides), I’d appreciate it. If this is not doable, please let me know and | will work something else out.
