Richard, Thanks for the clarifications you sent along. Since Mike will be out this week, | will take a crack at asking some follow-questions to get a better handle on things. (1} How many samples, at each of the 17 facilities you originally requested, were you hoping to have analyzed for the list of various emerging contaminants you had provided in your request? A single sample at each facility ... for a total of 17 samples in 2013? (2) in your 3" paragraph below you stated the following: “The analyses could be conducted by the state laboratory where possible (drinking water or environmental lab} or at a properly cartified/acceptable contract laboratory if the program’, you meant the WRD’s Surface Water Assessment Saction, of which Mike is one of the unit chiefs, correct? It seems obvious, but | just wanted to make sure. (i have attached your original request for in case you want to reference it.) Attached to this message is a request for Water Quality Monitoring for WRD consideration. We believe this proposal provides an opportunity for collaboration between the PWSS and NPDES programs in our Source Water Protection Program. The monitoring locations suggested are intakes for drinking water systems whose source for the most part are water bodies prioritized for next year’s WQ monitoring program (with the exception of Ann Arbor). The specific parameters recommended are some of the emerging contaminants identified by EPA for monitoring by select drinking water systems over the next 3 years. We believe sampling these drinking water sources for these emerging contaminants will provide an opportunity for source water protection efforts should they be detected. Be aware that this monitoring will not replace any required monitoring, as many of these systems will not be included in EPA’s UCMR3, and those that may be selected will be conducting monitoring after treatment, not from untreated sources.
