Re: Water in Schools

Greetings, Thanks for sharing this information. I will be sure address this concern with our administrators, teachers and staff. Educationally yours, Bilal K. Tawwab Superintendent Flint Community Schools "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." - Frederick Douglass On Fri, Dec 11, 2015 at 12:30 PM -0800, "Krisztian, George (DEQ)" <kr Hi Tony, | had a conversation with City Administrator Natasha Henderson today. She relayed to me a concern that a resident raised the other evening at a meeting. This resident indicated that it was their belief that some children were still drinking from the drinking fountains. | understand that there are some sources that are not conducive to being shut off and this makes the task more challenging. Would it be possible to communicate to the principals that any water source that cannot be readily shut off be inactivated by somehow physically making the source inoperable or inaccessible? | have seen a number of teachers take very creative and positive steps in dealing with this and | was hoping that you could perhaps convey the need to maintain these positive steps and ensure that they are utilized everywhere. | further understand that this becomes even more of a challenge on Fridays at schools that are having their plumbing evaluated. Children are naturally curious and if they see water flowing from a fountain that has been dormant for weeks it becomes almost like a magnet. Thank you! George George L. RE: Water in Schools

Greetings George, Thank you for forwarding the concern te cur attention. We will be sure to re-emphasize to our principals the need to keep the water fountains turned off or covered in a manner that makes them inoperable or inaccessible. Additionally, we will have our maintenance and custedial staff follow up and check them. You are correct, on the Fridays of the profile is difficult as students see the activity around the fountains.
