Attorney General Bill Schuette asked that I respond to your email regarding lead levels in the
drinking water in Flint. The Attorney General has been monitoring this situation closely since
he became aware of the lead levels in Flint’s drinking water, and supports prompt action to
ensure Flint residents have a clean and safe drinking water supply.

As I assume you are aware, in the spring of 2014 the City of Flint resumed using the Flint River
as its source for drinking water (the City’s source prior to the late 1960's). This occurred after
the City announced it would be leaving the Detroit water system and getting its water from the
(then) yet-to-be-constructed Karegondi Water Authority pipeline, which will bring water directly
